Indonesia Sommelier Association - ISA Bali Chapter proud to share for the result of the latest Sommelier Competition the Third Bali Junior Sommelier Competition 2019 and Indonesia Best Sommelier Competition 2019 the events was held in conjunction with Interfood Bali Expo from 26 to 28 September 2019 at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center.
Day one, 26 September 2019 we started the day with written test for the candidate of the competition, this year the participant of the competition are 31 participant of young talent below 22 year old, the idea to gain more interest from the young talent to wines and sommelier skills.
Follow with Masterclass Introduction to Cava by Ms Alison Harvey as Freixenet South East Asia Manager continue the semifinal round with 10 semifinalist who challenged by the white wine service and blind tasting challenges, competition follow with the final round 5 finalist selected to run the challenged of opening sparkling wine, blind tasting of 4 liquid and opening and pouring challenges.

Best Bali Junior 1st runner up Sommelier 2019 – I Gede Yogi Pradana Putra from Café Del Mar,Bali
Best Bali Junior 2nd runner up Sommelier 2019 – Ni Luh Ayu Diah Wahyundari from the Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali
Day two, 27 September 2019 the National competition this year was organize by Sopexa French Wines lead by Mr. Mathias Camilleri Master Sommelier from Singapore, this competition is part of Asia French Wine Competition, as all champion Asia will be compete at the Sopexa Asia Competition in French Wine which this year will be held in Shanghai on 11 to 12 December 2019. Participant of the competition are each 4 champions from Bali Chapter and Jakarta Chapter as both of the champion already done their chapter competition to choose their best to represent each chapter to the national competition.
Competition started written test and blind tasting follow with Final round. The 8 semifinalist and 3 finalist run troughs several skill challenges from Blind tasting, opening and serving wines, Decanting, Cocktail Challenge, Wine and food pairing recommendation, with 9 judges observed and collected their point to choose the best Sommelier in Indonesia.

Indonesia Best 1st runner up Sommelier - 2019 Nyoman Alit Susila Putra Assistant Director of Operation at Potato Head Beach Club
Indonesia Best 2nd runner up Sommelier 2019 - Agustinus Reynaldi from Ismaya Group Jakarta
“this year competition was really interesting the level of challenges and applied international competition standard, it really pushes our Sommelier on knowledge and skills standard. The fact of the champion and runner up will be go straight to international competition is even more make this competition more interesting. I do hope this competition drive the passion and giving enough challenges to all Sommelier in Bali as well of Indonesia and we could send more Indonesia Sommelier to international competition in the future” said Ms. Kertawidyawati the President of ISA Bali Chapter.
